Budget plan PDF Print E-mail

This Budget Plan lists all the costs necessary for managing the Sustainable Cities project and for producing the first documentary: Freiburg, the town between sun and forest.

Some of these costs are estimated; they may be reduced or may disappear altogether, depending on how the project develops and on new collaborations that may arise during promotion and fundraising period. Any reductions will be recorded in the Budget Plan and announced in the forum.

Any surplus of money at the end of production will be used for the next documentary in the series, unless decided otherwise in the forum.

As already stated, this is an estimate; during the fundraising period we will work to develop useful collaborations to reduce this budget. We were already able to cut the budget from € 8130 to € 6770 because now we have a cameraman and a sound technician willing to join the project without any fee (please see the Sustainable Forum). We are looking for new volunteers as well as we are looking for suggestions, so read carefully the Budget Plain and if there is something you can do join the project! The more we are the less the movie will cost.

1 Edoardo Brachetti, the creator of this website, has offered to pay the registration domain for 2007.

2 We have chosen a postal account for reasons of security and transparency. This account is also useful because of the many different kinds of payment it offers, as explained in the section “How to contribute”. Money will be transferred into this account when a certain amount is reached in the PayPal account. Transfers from PayPal cost € 1 for any amount. Postamat debit card will be used to pay for services in Freiburg.

3 There are five people required for the production: a director, an assistant and a consultant (see below), a cameraman and a sound Technician. We will go to Freiburg from Rome by plane. A round trip Rome – Basel (the nearest airport) is from 65 to 100 euro plus the cost of the train ticket Basel – Freiburg. Therefore we estimated a cost of € 120 per person: total 600 euro, plus a round trip train ticket for 3 person Florence – Rome (the director, the consultant and the assistant live in Tuscany): € 200.

4 We have estimated that the cost of a room in a central 3-star hotel in the peak season is about €65; plus €55 a day for each person for food, transport (e.g. bicycle hire) and other expenses. This comes to a total cost of €120 per person per day. The director, the assistant, the cameraman and the sound technician will stay in Freiburg for one week, while the consultant will stay three days (see below). The total amount has been rounded down to € 3360.

7 We were able to cut the full amount of the cost of the crew, € 2500, because a professional filmmaker from Rome, Emanuele Muscolino, gathered a crew of volunteers (see the Sustainable forum).

8 Some of the people approached to give interviews asked for a contribution for the sustainable projects they represent. This amount is an estimate.

9 Videotape, batteries, etc. This is an estimate.

10 To guarantee the high quality of the film, which will be shot in English, we have decided to include the consultancy of an English mother-tongue expert in urban sustainability. Professor Richard Ingersoll teaches Architecture History and Urban Design at Syracuse University in Florence and the Faculty of Architecture in Ferrara. He was born in San Francisco in 1949 and has lived in Italy since 1970. For many years he has been actively involved in the study of urban sprawl and its consequences. Among his publications: Sprawltown. Cercando la città in periferia, (Roma: Meltemi, 2004), “Viaggio in Italia, 1996-1998,” in La Periferia italiana, ed., Lorenzo Bellicini, (Roma: Meltemi, 2001); and Global Architecture, 1900-2000. A Critical Mosaic, Volume I: North America, USA and Canada, (Beijing: Chinese Architectural Press, Dec. 2000).

11 This is an estimate, nobody has been contacted for this post and we are looking for a volunteer.

13 By the creators of the project. We also want to do a version dubbed into Italian, at least for the voiceover. We are looking for a volunteer for this post.

14 Musician Simone Baldini Tosi, who has already composed the music for the Demo, has offered to compose the soundtrack for the first film.
