Title of the documentary in production: “Freiburg, the town between sun and forest”. Why Freiburg? Because it is a good starting point. Freiburg, located in the south of Germany, is investing a lot on sustainability: it has a plan to became energy self-sufficient, a transport system based on trams and bicycles, houses which produce more energy than they use, innovative urban solutions. The documentary will bring to light the “passive houses”, the solar parking areas and many other achievements. It will also analyse these projects from a technical point of view and it will show them in detailes. Freiburg is the living evidence that changing is possible and, more importantly, that a change does not imply any special difficulty. All you need is a confident public administration ready to accept the challenge of citizens active participation and willing to involve its territory, its energetic and human resources to this purpose. This documentary will investigate this reality and it will especially answer to this question: how has it been possible to realize this winning combination between public sector and private citizens in order to deliver such good outcomes? Freiburg teaches us that building a sustainable city is not only a matter of new engineering applications. Instead, it requires new political projects, a new vision of the city wich, believe it or not, is really the most difficult aspect of the problem. |
